Week 13 Storytelling: The Dirty Kitten

Once upon a time, there was a very unhappy cat named Tito. Tito was a fancy house cat who had 3 sisters; Callie, Sunshine, and Pepperoni. Tito's sisters were not very nice to him and always asked him to do things for them- even when it wasn't his job.

In the house where the cats lived, was a girl named Annie who loved the cats very much! She was constantly bringing them treats and toys and played with them every day after school. One day, the cats' family went on vacation for two weeks and the kitties were left at home, with the neighbor coming to visit them every day.

After a few days of their family being gone, it became clear to the kittens that their babysitter did not  read the note left by Annie, which explained that the cats need treats and cuddles every day! The cats were very sad about their lack of treats so they sent their brother on a mission to find them.

Tito set out to find treats- sneaking out the kitchen window. He wandered around outside until he found a barn filled with barn cats. He entered reluctantly, hoping to find some goodies without being noticed. He sneaked into the barn and sniffed out some delicious smelling snacks. He grabbed as many as he could fit into his mouth and started to sneak away with them.

"Stop" he heard, turning to see a giant barn cat named Pickle. "I can get you as many treats as you want- but you will have to stay with us for a while and help us work."

Tito thought about it for a moment and decided that his sister's happiness was very important to him so he agreed to work for the treats. The work of the barn cats was very tough work and after one day of working, Tito's once light orange fur had turned brown and grey.

Pickle explained to him that he could take as many treats he could carry and thanked him for his work. This was the first time Tito had been thanked for his work. He reflected on his day and remembered how good it felt for him to be around the barn cats- they were so welcoming and friendly.

Tito headed back home to his sisters to give them treats.

He arrived back to the house and tried to sneak in the window, but his sisters would not let him in because they did not recognize him with his fur all dirty.  He tried to convince them of who he was, but they did  not believe him.

Tito decided to leave the treats at the window for his sisters to find and went back to the barn to his new friends (who don't care what he looks like).

Authors Note:
This is my storytelling assignment based on my week 11 reading: "The Golden Feathers." It is obviously a loose adaptation and not exactly the same plot line. Once again, my niece Maddy helped me with this story. This time we decided to base the characters off of kitties that we know. He thought this was a good story because it teaches people the right way to treat others. We also thought it was a good way to show people that it is okay to walk away from situations where you feel welcomed or uncomfortable. The image we chose for this story is an image of the real life Tito and Pepperoni, who we just adopted a few weeks ago.

  1. Hey Linsey,

I love this story, I really like how you decided you animals you know in real life for your characters. Choosing characters familiar to you can really help create a better tone in your writing. I really liked the ending of your story, it was a nice concise way of telling the moral.

Also, I love the picture of the cats. They are adorable.
